I’m Not Mad is a dark comedy short film based off a web series Nina Rubesa wrote and directed during lockdown. As all her projects start, this too was an experiment.

I’m not Mad is about a unsatisfied woman who invites her husbands mistress over for dinner where it all takes a dark turn.

ABOUT
NINA

Nina Rubesa is a multi disciplinary writer and performer merging comedy, spoken word and music. Her work experiments with how to get a visceral reaction from the audience, often offering a confronting experience with heaps of comedy to relieve the tension. Her debut sold out one woman play Dreamers was described as ‘an emotional rollercoaster’ which had the audience crying as well as spitting out their drinks (yes, it’s a real achievement) and her bold, debut short film (shot in one consecutive 25-minute take) was described as ‘emotional gore’ by her psychic, coining a new genre.

From having a break down on stage to pretending to forget the words to her spoken word Nina brings a Jester like quality to her work that doesn’t take itself too seriously while delivering deeply transformative messages. During lockdown she made 100 monologues for Instagram as a way to inject positivity onto peoples feeds and is now further developing this concept.

In 2021 she was part of the prestigious Soho Theatre’s stand up comedy lab and received mentoring from the BFI in 2022. Shore Scripts called her writing intoxicating and described her short film an ‘edge-of-your-seat revenge thriller that distinguishes itself right off the bat with a strong stylistic choice and a really appealing, dark sense of humor.’

Nina is currently documenting the process of turning her debut play into an Emmy award winning TV show on her podcast Day One which sheds a light on the creative process and the transformative power linked to pursuing ‘impossible’ dreams. She is also a certified hypnotist.
